Root and Branch Changes at Truro Chamber of Commerce
Over the past three months the new executive have discussed and pondered how we should re- invigorate the Chamber and to help it’s 160 members more. The result of this is the following email to explain what and how we intend to proceed.
I am writing specifically to you because of the steps Truro Chamber is making so we are a more relevant organisation in today’s world having had its role changed by events over the recent past e.g. the creation of BIDS taking certain distinct responsibilities and matters from Chamber, such as the Christmas lights.
So the New Executive have put their heads together and thought we should ask you what you wanted of us.
To that end we are dedicating October, November and December meetings, and do not forget they have changed to the 1st Tuesday in every month, so discussions can take place with regard to all the many matters affecting Truro in the future ranging from:
How does Truro business want the city to move forward working with the new County Council and how do they see it developing and can we act in a much stronger lobbying capacity for members.
What could be done to draw people and other businesses to Truro and to its businesses with what internet opportunities can be used for Truro centre.
Use of the water in Truro, climate change and effects on Tourism within the centre. How can Chamber help and what views do you wish us to express?
A planned bigger population and new housing, the new road and the district centre at Threemilestone. What instructions or brief do you want the Chamber to follow?
These meetings will be held on:
Tuesday, 6th October, 2009 at 6.00 p.m. at Trelissick Gardens, Feock
Tuesday, 3rd November, 2009 at 6.00 p.m. at Truro City Football Club
Tuesday, 1st December, 2009 at 6.00 p.m. at Winter Rule, Lowin House, Truro
4th Meeting to conclude:
Tuesday, 19th January, 2010 at 6.00 p.m. at Town Hall, Boscawen Street, Truro
It is not down to us your Exec., it is down to you, the members. We want your views and we wish to counsel your thoughts and ideas and then deliver them on your behalf and thereby helping your business.
We, Truro City, have been ear marked £10,000,000 from the Convergence funds and Chamber are part of the committee putting the Plan together but we want to hear from you, what you think is important for Truro, but remember it has to fall within the criteria of Convergence.
We are inviting “witnesses” to present their view of Truro’s future at these three meetings and we will email you nearer the date, who will be attending and the particular topic for that month.
The Truro Chamber has become a member of Cornwall Chamber of Commerce so you, the members can receive substantial benefits if you require them.
It will give you access to the following benefits: a) An Invitation to the Cornwall Better Business Club.
b) Access to Chamber payment services (Better Streamline rates).
c) Access to Cornwall Chambers offers including free legal helpline.
d) All the benefits of British Chamber of Commerce Business Services ranging from skills.
e) e-newsletters and much more.
This will only cost an additional £20 per business but we recommend that it is worth every penny.
The previously popular Networking Meetings held on the 3rd Friday of the month, have resumed again in September. We have discussed a different format and venues but what do you think? We want to hear from you with your views.
This is now a refreshed website but there is still a lot of work to be done, but let us know what else you want to see there? The website is work in progress, e.g. New Members Section, with the a press release about the meeting at Trelissick Garden. You can send any information for events or special offers to the Secretary who will channel the information to our website organiser.
